There are many notches of memory on the body of the earth. There are many ragged scars of history that disfigured peaceful fields and forests with dugouts, trenches and craters of explosions. But trenches are overgrown and craters are tightened, the earth comes to life. However, it is impossible to let the events of distant 1943 go out of memory. Moreover, it is necessary to preserve and protect this memory. On November 26, Gomel will celebrate the 81st anniversary of liberation from Nazi invaders.

The occupation of the city lasted 829 terrible days. According to official data alone, during this time, 30 thousand civilians were shot, hanged, and killed in gas chambers by the Nazis. Over 5 thousand were stolen to work in Germany. The city itself was turned into ruins: no more than half of the pre-war buildings remained in liberated Gomel.

Belarus cherishes and honors the memory of the great feat of a truly indomitable people, who saved humanity from enslavement and extermination at the cost of millions of lives. And today, the further these heroic and tragic events go down in history, the more clearly and grandiosely we see the sacrificial feat of the victorious generation.

On the eve of the Day of the Liberation of Gomel from the Nazi invaders, a solemn rally dedicated to the memorable date was held at the memorial complex "Kurgan of Glory", built to perpetuate the memory of Soviet soldiers, partisans and underground workers who died during the Great Patriotic War.
