The V All-Russian Spartakiad of the Special Olympics in Athletics has started in Tolyatti. This large—scale event brought together more than 500 athletes from 24 regions of the country, 366 of them athletes with disabilities. The competition will last four days.
The AMAKS "Yubileynaya" Hotel has proudly become a part of this important sports festival. Many participants, coaches and representatives of the delegations chose our hotel to stay during the competition. We have tried to create the most comfortable conditions so that each guest feels at home and can fully focus on achieving high results.
This year's Spartakiad has broken a record: 521 people are participating, among them 366 athletes with special needs — twice as many as last year. The competitions are held within the framework of the federal project "Development of physical culture and mass sports".
The program is rich: running distances from 25 to 3000 meters, long jump, shot put, relay races. All disciplines are adapted to the athletes' health capabilities. The organizers divided the athletes into four categories. The first one is for children with musculoskeletal disorders, they compete at a distance of 25 meters. The second group consists of more stable participants who run 60, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meters, as well as long jump and push the core.
On the first day, the preliminary races for 25 and 60 meters were held.
Representatives of the region noted that the Samara region is developing, involving more and more athletes every year. Currently, about seven neuropsychiatric boarding schools and correctional boarding schools are involved in the competition. They stressed that trust on the part of the subjects is very important, and such competitions will continue to show that sport is accessible to everyone, and self-realization through sport is important for any child with disabilities.
