Ryazan is officially the capital of amateur hockey.

The Ryazan Night Hockey League (RNHL) is a leading Russian amateur sports organization that has no analogues in the country and the world. In fact, it is the amateur national hockey championship. The project was founded in 2011 on the initiative and with the participation of President Vladimir Putin, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, as well as renowned veterans of Russian hockey Alexander Yakushev and Vyacheslav Fetisov.

On October 16, 2018, the Olympic Sports Palace hosted the opening ceremony of the qualifying stage of the VIII All-Russian Night Hockey League Festival.
And for more than 15 years, the Ryazan region has been recognized as the best in terms of the number of participants, the quality of the tournament organization and information support.
